Interesting UI detail on the Weekendavisen iPad app proposal by Marcus Fuchs. The page icon shows how far through the article the reader is. Progress indication is something I’ve been considering for a little while with regards to text spanning multiple pages in magazine / book apps; without the weight of a physical artifact in your hand it is hard to instinctively know how far you are through. Of course one of the beauties of digital content is its non-linear nature, but something like a long article or novel still requires this functionality. The Kindle has a progress bar with a percentage, which does the job, but feels a bit mechanical. It would be nice to have something a little more subtle, something that can be taken in subconsciously. I think this solution comes close (even if, in this particular instance the indicator is used on a single page, where a scroll bar would suffice).  For what is not a real-world project, this looks to be a highly accomplished piece of design.
